Taiwan exhibits 65 million-year-old dinosaur fossils.
TAIPEI: Taiwan revealed a 65 million-year-old dinosaur fossil on Monday (December 7) for an exhibition that hopes to raise awareness about global warming.
The exhibition is due to start on Saturday (December 12) with 250 fossils, such as dinosaur claws and eggs, coming from eight countries in five continents.
The largest exhibition item, a male Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, was revealed at the exhibition's opening ceremony. The complete skeleton is 4 metres high and 12 metres long.
A researcher at Hayashibara Museum of Natural Sciences of Japan said the most distinctive features of this set of T-Rex fossils are their big heads and short forearms.
Other items in the exhibition include the Allosaurus, Pterosaurs, and Hesperosaurus.
"I wish that Taiwanese people can also understand the process of dinosaur research, enjoy an environment surrounded with dinosaurs, and learn all the knowledge about dinosaurs," said Shigeru Suzuki, a researcher at Hayashibara Museum of Natural Sciences.
Along with the pre-historic skeletons, three robot dinosaurs also came from Japan, made by Kokoro Company.
Children at the exhibition said they weren't afraid of the giant monsters that once ruled the earth.
"The dinosaurs in the television are a bit small, a little bit," said 6-year-old Hsieh Hsiang-han.
But when asked about the dinosaurs up close at the exhibition, the six year-old simply said: "It's bigger."
The dinosaurs will be displayed throughout the year-end Christmas and New Year holidays, and will continue until April 5, 2010.
