L.A. committee to review Jackson memorial costs
LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles City Council committee plans to discuss the $3.2 million taxpayers spent on the Michael Jackson memorial.
The Public Safety Committee on Monday plans to review the costs for police, traffic control and other expenses for the July 7 event at the Staples Center arena. A recent city report said the memorial gave the city a $4 million economic boost thanks to increased restaurant and hotel business.
The report also said there was no law in place at the time to require reimbursement of city costs and suggested officials might want to stop pursuing repayment from the event organizer, AEG. The city attorney however has said he still wants the company to reimburse the city.
