Victoria and David Beckham's charity has given nearly £1million to help children in five years
The Beckhams have given nearly £1million to help children in five years.
In that time football star David and his wife Victoria have helped hundreds of disabled youngsters – buying many state-of-the art wheelchairs.
In total the Victoria and David Beckham Children’s Charity has handed over £913,269 since 2005. But donations to the fund, run by Victoria’s mum Jackie, fell from £102,209 in 2008 to just £11,917 last year.
At the same time spending fell from £335,502 to £32,474. The charity still gave to 12 good causes in the year up to April 2009, including a £2,487 donation to The Aids Mobility Centre which provides specialist wheelchairs.
Its managing director David Watling said: “To have raised so much money and helped so many people is amazing. Some of these wheelchairs can cost £10,000 and they are life-changing.”
In 2007, the couple bought disabled Callum Miller, two, a walking device.
His mum Jane said at the time: “When Callum took his first steps I could barely see his grinning face through my tears".
