Cameron’s Avatar may be banned in China
James Cameron’s latest blockbuster may soon be banned in China since the Chinese authorities are not pleased with the rebellious message of the movie. The state owned China Film Group has asked the theatres across the country to stop screening the 2D version of Avatar from January 23 onwards after orders being issued by the Beijing’s propaganda chiefs. The Chinese government fears that he citizens of its not so democratic state will draw inspiration from the revolutionary zeal of the Navi people in Avatar.
A few days ago with the release of the movie in China, the newspaper China Daily has highlighted the movies’ theme being “fighting colonialism, indiscriminate use of military forces and interracial relationships”. Besides the Columnist has also shrewdly noticed that there is a distinct similarity between the plight of the navi people in the movie and the ordinary Chinese people fighting the land hungry real estate developers after he saw the bull dozer in the movie. The columnist claims that the movie can inspire the ordinary Chinese citizens to revolt against thereal estate developers who grab the legally owned lands of the people.
But the big question is whether the movie will be stopped just only because of a possible revolt against the real estate developers? Given the state of human rights in China its quite obvious by the authorities are contemplating to ban a revolutionary movie in the country.
